Bodie

For todays post I wanted to share my favorite photo from last year. The photo below was taken in Bodie California. Bodie back in the day was a gold mine. Literally! It was known as one of the last gold mining towns of the cowboy era. Everything that you see in all those old western movies took place on the streets of Bodie.

I could not even imagine l living in such a place. It reaches 80 degrees during the day and drops down to the 20's at night.

This is also the picture that will appear on my business cards. I will share that design on my next post.

BRING ON THE WEEKEND!

Well for me the weekend is here, and it's hitting me like a a giant bear hug from a 400 pound pink gorilla. My god - this week of work felt like it would never end. It was one of those weeks where on Tuesday morning you look at the calendar, see it's Tuesday, and feel like you're stuck on Groundhog day (shout out to Bill Murray).

To celebrate this GLORIOUS three day weekend I am posting a picture that lets you know where my head is going to be from now until Monday morning.

This message has been touched by the Fairy. BOOYAH!

Retire that DINGEY!

For today's post I wanted to share a boat that was also found near the area of the China Camp (same location as my previous post). This boat was sitting in front of where we parked our car that afternoon. One great thing about this photo is that you can't see all the activity going on outside of the walls of the pictures. To the left there is a woman painting the dock house and to the right is a family of four getting ready to launch their kayaks into the water. The picture paints this boat as standing alone and having a blanket of water infront of it in which to navigate its future.

If you had the ability to navigate this boat anywhere your heart desired, where would that be?

First of many

Hello readers! I am a photographer born and raised in Long Island, NY and now living in Northern California.

I didn't used to think of myself as a photographer but over the past few years my camera has become an extension of myself. I've seen myself turn a corner from taking everyday photos to taking photos that capture both my personality, and the beauty that I witness daily.

My goal for this blog is to upload one photo a day and to give you a little history behind the photo and what I feel inside when I look at it.

While I will try my hardest to keep this post as personal as I can, I live with my girlfriend who has more of a grammatical background then I do. I will leave it in your hands to guess if I single handedly wrote a blog entry OR if there was a little help from a grammatical fairy. I'll give you a heads start. The first three paragraphs came from the fairy.

----------------------------------------------------------

For my first picture I wanted to share a shot from my previous weekend adventure. While in San Rafael over the weekend, my GF and I (GF does not stand for grandfather as I have learned people think that it does. You can interpret GF as GirlFriend, or in this blog's case, the Grammatical Fairy) stumbled onto a place called China Camp. This was a location that Chinese immigrants stayed during the mid to late 1800's. While here they grew the largest shrimping industry on the West Coast. Over time they were pushed out by the "Top Guns" of the shrimping industry.

Knowing the history that did take place here I see this dock as truly speaking its age. As a person gets older they get a little wrinkly and bent out of shape, and so has this dock. In every bend and gap there is a little bit of history. From an art standpoint, using the boathouse entry way as a natural frame worked out as well.
